Radio Code of Ethics

RTNDA: Membership organization of radio, television and online news directors, producers, executives and educators with about 3,000 members.

Preamble: "Professional electronic journalists should operate as trustees of the public, seek the truth, report it fairly and with the integrity and independence, and stand accountable, for their actions."

RTNDA: Code of Ethics

Public Trust: Journalist should serve the public interests.
The Truth: Journalists should not plagiarize, manipulate sounds or images in a misleading manner.
Fairness: Informs the public without bias or stereotype.
Integrity: Present the news avoiding real or perceived conflicts of interest, and respect the dignity and intelligence of the audience.
Independence: Defend the independence of all journalists from those seeking control over news content.
Accountability: Journalists are accountable for their actions to the public, the profession, and themselves. Investigate complaints and correct errors promptly and with as much prominence as the original report.

Protection by the Constitution

Freedom of the Press:
*Publishers own everything needed for news and ideas.
*The broadcaster is entitled to broadcast over an assigned frequency.
*Workers of the press may be conservative in the treatment of any religious, social,economical, or political matter.
*The Freedom of Press protects media workers from the danger of citizens. Freedom of Press is highly threatened to those who give daily reports.

Free Speech

*The First Amendment states that congress should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press.
*Freedom of speech has certain limitations, such as the seven filthy words that you are not allowed to say over the radio according to the FCC.
*Chief Judge Bazelons states that paragraph 1464 can cover only language that is obscene or unprotected by the first amendment.

Protection by the Constitution

The First Amendment:
*Ensures the right to exercise any particular religion freely.
*Guarantees freedom of the press.
*Guarantees freedom of speech.
*Ensures right to assemble peacefully.
*Guarantees the right to petition the government if there are any grievances
.


Freedom of the Press:
*Guarantee by a government of free public press.
*Guarantee by a government involved in obtaining information for public distribution.

RTNDA: Code of Ethics
